eating out #1

So I just recently moved into a new neighborhood (in August) and there is nothing better than getting the chance to explore a totally new area of the city, trying the restaurants, parks, bars, etc. Since I've moved in I've only truly gone out to eat once (b/c my boyfriend currently is unemployed) and that was fabulous. We went to the Belgian Cafe and the food was fantastic. The beer list is ginormous, but the servers were really knowledgeable and helped me out with a choice that I ended up loving.

Last night was our second dinner outing cuz I finally broke down and paid again for our meal just so that we could go out. We decided on Urban Saloon because the menu sounded good and it wasn't all that expensive. They have cool beer choices (but that's clearly a trend and who doesn't?) and my pumpkin beer, which I chose kind of randomly, was really good. Then we ordered our food (which btw took about 100 years cuz the service was super slooowww). Me: the steak tips w/ veggies and a potato pancake. Him: a burger and salad. We also got a calamari appetizer.

I hadn't eaten since noon and it was 7pm- needless to say I was starving. Our calamari came and it was good, but I've never seen a plate of calamari that tiny. Then after about 45 minutes of sheer hell, our food came. I almost cried when I saw how teeny tiny mine was. It was like 4 carrots, a potato pancake the size of a half dollar, and 5 little slices of steak. The veggies were good, but the steak and potato were mediocre. My bf's food was tastier than mine, but was stupid. What I mean by this is that they serve the burgers on Texas Toast, but the burger patties are really taller than they are wide. It was virtually impossible for him to eat since every time he picked it up, the toast would split because of all of the weight in the center. It seems like if you're going to serve a burger on toast, you'd make it wider, right?

It turns out there was a reason their prices weren't so bad - teeny tiny food. In conclusion, it was ok - I probably won't be returning any time soon. But I've got plenty of other restaurants to sample, so I'm not disheartened. I went home and ate some dessert and felt much better.
